I have Narcolepsy and I Need to Sleep.

(Ah, the Inaccurate Stereotype Repeats...)

But Without  Provigil, Xyrem and Effexor XR,

My brain is confused between awake and asleep.

 My dreams become Real- on Elm St.

I See Freddy, I feel pain as he slashes my flesh,

I cannot move, scream, my heart's in a panic

I say a prayer and Freddy scoffs and burns me.

   

Sleep Paralysis ~  its not for the weak. 

Especially, when no one thinks I'm being attacked by my Sleeper Creeper,

 because I look ASLEEP.

and I am NOT counting sheep! 

Unable to move in a meld of reality and dream horrifyingly realistic  sleep paralysis.
Sometimes a Joke is so Funny, I immediately fall onto the floor, conscious of all around me. 

I try to laugh,  cry, but nothing comes out.
I cannot hold my neck up, as I'm paralyzed in discomfort.
Its a struggle to breathe, my breasts are suffocating me. 

Pharmaceutical companies are rejoicing, Status Cataplexus is my least favorite address,

Without Xyrem, Effexor XR, and Provigil.

Suddenly Sleepy Saturday: Empizizing via Daylight Saving Time

Here's the Pinnacle of Sleep Awareness week, Suddenly Sleepy Saturday.  Designed to fall on the day of Jumping up one hour, making us lose an hour of sleep, so everyone can have a sample of our lives as Person's with Narcolepsy/ Hypersomnia/ Dyssomnias, an equal opportunity Sleep Deprivator that Daylight Saving Time is. Also called Narcolepsy Awareness Day, Suddenly Sleepy Saturday was begun by Narcolepsy Network, narcolepsynetwork.org 

Person's with Narcolepsy all over the USA and Beyond have sent out and received state Governor and city Mayor/Manager Proclamations, formal notices of Suddenly Sleepy Saturday. What do actual person's with narcolepsy actually do on Suddenly Sleep Saturday? Many do public awareness events like presentations, fundraising events in different variations, and some gather with their local support group and loved ones.

Julie Flyare, JD, Narcolepsy Spokeswoman, Narcolepsy: Not Alone campaign owner, founder of Project Sleep and fellow PWN (person with Narcolepsy) and Author of her Memoir about Narcolepsy, Wide Awake and Dreaming, hosts her annual Sleep In challenge and fundraiser for Project Sleep where participants get pledges based on the hours they spend in bed during Suddenly Sleepy Saturday.  One of the best slumber party's around!

What did Sleepy American Do to commemorate Suddenly Sleepy Saturday?

DFW Narcolepsy Friends is our new local Support Group for person's with Narcolepsy, our mates/caregivers, family, etc.

We met at a Member's home in Garland, TX, and shared stories, encouragement, and knowledge as well as laughs and good food with fun! IT's been a dream of mine for more than a decade to have a support group in my area, but never was able to garner enough support for it back then. Due to privacy issues I will not publish any pictures of members unless they agree its ok. Narcolepsy still has a nasty 'lazy' stigma that employers can use to discriminate, terminate employment based on our health, even if medications are controlling our symptoms. The American's with Disabilities is a weak protection, and Texas doesn't make employers share a reason for terminating any employee. Sorry, we DID not choose this life, oh we would be just as physically healthy are the rest of humanity if it were a choice. We deserve your luxury Health Care Plan WE PAY FOR so you can watch us suffer. Unfathomably disgusting and immoral.

What will the American Health Plan mean for... the Disabled, Elderly Poor? I read about the horrors of the Concentration Camps, state of our prisons, low income nursing homes.... but even for those fortunate to have good health, no debilitating rare or chronic illnesses, disabilities, the war on the poor, aka Paulocaust Ryan visually evident and disturbingly so. How do we raise our 'Christian' children when our most helpless, vulnerable yet VALUABLE populations needlessly, cruelly and Painfully suffer and die, alone cold on the street corners. How much longer can the Congressional Coward Pharisees and Parasites line their pockets with charity not meant for them, but for them to be paid to represent US, not just their own self-corporate interests.

Medicaid ALWAYS is cut, always, just as SSI got a whopping $2 raise for cost of living... this January 2017. I am not just horrified for me, but every vulnerable poor person with a warm, beating heart, just as alive and deserving of starving and rotting in horrific pain till death's relief because we are so self involved to notice our neighbor's humanity. What the current state of Texas Privitized Medicaid is currently like....The Sad, Bad and Ugly truth of Privatized Medicaid in Texas

Ultimately, Medicaid would first be cut by 35% and ultimately by 49%, and Texas never expanded Medicaid. Texas is overgrown Republican, We have the poorest and neediest citizens, yet even many of 'us' are against the poor disabled and elderly. We contribute the least in Medicaid taxes yet use the majority of input by Blue states... yet we hate ourselves? Anyone whom has visited the Dallas or Sherman, TX VA Hospitals, no matter their party affiliation, will readily admit Seattle's VA hospital is miles above quality in giving our exceptionally deserving Veterans Healthcare. If you can send these men and women to mortally fight the very least we can do is take as much care of them as we spend on Military supplies.
