I have Narcolepsy and I Need to Sleep.

(Ah, the Inaccurate Stereotype Repeats...)

But Without  Provigil, Xyrem and Effexor XR,

My brain is confused between awake and asleep.

 My dreams become Real- on Elm St.

I See Freddy, I feel pain as he slashes my flesh,

I cannot move, scream, my heart's in a panic

I say a prayer and Freddy scoffs and burns me.

   

Sleep Paralysis ~  its not for the weak. 

Especially, when no one thinks I'm being attacked by my Sleeper Creeper,

 because I look ASLEEP.

and I am NOT counting sheep! 

Unable to move in a meld of reality and dream horrifyingly realistic  sleep paralysis.
Sometimes a Joke is so Funny, I immediately fall onto the floor, conscious of all around me. 

I try to laugh,  cry, but nothing comes out.
I cannot hold my neck up, as I'm paralyzed in discomfort.
Its a struggle to breathe, my breasts are suffocating me.

DFW Narcolepsy Friends is our new local Support Group for person's with Narcolepsy, our mates/caregivers, family, etc.

We met at a Member's home in Garland, TX, and shared stories, encouragement, and knowledge as well as laughs and good food with fun! IT's been a dream of mine for more than a decade to have a support group in my area, but never was able to garner enough support for it back then. Due to privacy issues I will not publish any pictures of members unless they agree its ok. Narcolepsy still has a nasty 'lazy' stigma that employers can use to discriminate, terminate employment based on our health, even if medications are controlling our symptoms. The American's with Disabilities is a weak protection, and Texas doesn't make employers share a reason for terminating any employee. I read about the horrors of the Concentration Camps, state of our prisons, low income nursing homes.... but even for those fortunate to have good health, no debilitating rare or chronic illnesses, disabilities, the war on the poor, aka Paulocaust Ryan visually evident and disturbingly so. How do we raise our 'Christian' children when our most helpless, vulnerable yet VALUABLE populations needlessly, cruelly and Painfully suffer and die, alone cold on the street corners. How much longer can the Congressional Coward Pharisees and Parasites line their pockets with charity not meant for them, but for them to be paid to represent US, not just their own self-corporate interests.

Medicaid ALWAYS is cut, always, just as SSI got a whopping $2 raise for cost of living... this January 2017. I am not just horrified for me, but every vulnerable poor person with a warm, beating heart, just as alive and deserving of starving and rotting in horrific pain till death's relief because we are so self involved to notice our neighbor's humanity. What the current state of Texas Privitized Medicaid is currently like....The Sad, Bad and Ugly truth of Privatized Medicaid in Texas

Ultimately, Medicaid would first be cut by 35% and ultimately by 49%, and Texas never expanded Medicaid. Texas is overgrown Republican, We have the poorest and neediest citizens, yet even many of 'us' are against the poor disabled and elderly. We contribute the least in Medicaid taxes yet use the majority of input by Blue states... yet we hate ourselves? Anyone whom has visited the Dallas or Sherman, TX VA Hospitals, no matter their party affiliation, will readily admit Seattle's VA hospital is miles above quality in giving our exceptionally deserving Veterans Healthcare. If you can send these men and women to mortally fight the very least we can do is take as much care of them as we spend on Military supplies.

While there tell in Austin--Gov Abbot and Rx congress to stop gutting my healthcare! Rx formulary US scripts denies to cover many generic drugs, like my antidepressant during suicide prevention week which treats my depression as well as cataplexy, sleep paralysis, hypnagogic and hyptomyoptic hallucinations- profound. The state stopped covering Generic Flexeril I take for fibromyalgia, and outright refused to cover Xyrem even when my sleep dr and patient advocate and I appealed to the highest level with extensive documentation of severe intermittent cataplexy- like conscious muscle paralysis almost all day, every day without my Xyrem. 🙅‍♂️ even after my doctor sent a letter of medical absolute necessity. I've been notified that The text is texas drug vendor formulary is going to completely exclude generic Provigil In March. All the other possible drugs you help keep me awake for any significant period of time Eg two hours. Due to my heart condition I cannot take anything else - Generic Adderal they want me to take. What is the Point of making The most vulnerable citizens severely suffer and I mean it... begging the ER to save my life 2010, Yes, governor Abbot is from my hometown Duncanville, Texas and spoke at my high school 🎓 1999, as well as A fellow disabled Texan who doesn't seem to think other Disableded people need access to drugs which lessens intermittent periods and involuntary but fully conscious paralysis and broken bones do to feeling any kind of emotion.

Superior health plan, The plan is paid profits using State and Federal profits make it impossible extremely difficult and very much delayed approval of many screenings like my imaging scans, treatments, prescriptions, surgeries... it's took Dr Jeyarajah two months continual appeals for superior to cover my yearly MRI with contrast To monitor my remaining six remaining liver tumors which are very deadly if they explode. Thank God for Costco and it's kind of funny that Xyrem patient assistance program helps me which is essentially a tax write off deduction. And that means that the state and not covering for Xyrem anyways.

Almost every person on Medicaid in Texas is treated that contracted several for profit privatized health insurance companies HMOs Via waivers from Feds in US congress. What this world needs now absolutely more than ever is authentic empathy and I really wish that Sleepy Americans Empizer was real because is serious complex need special care when in hospital, rehab facility, hospital night.. Period. The entire reason why I am considered legally disabled due to my severity of symptoms of narcolepsy- ( sleep paralysis, cataplexy/Status cataplexus combined. Excessive daytime sleepiness/sleep attacks in which your instant me if you leave gone three days without any sleep.

Centene's CEO makes 100K + a day rationing Medical care for the most needy, impoverished, disabled populations via Superior Health Plan. Disabled populations getting less than 10K yr in benefits. Care to imagine what will happen with High Risk Pools, Medicaid Block Grants, destruction of the Marketplace ACA? Yeah, make the rich richer off the backs of the poor disabled, because making life harder, impossibly lived for our most vulnerable is OH so Christian and Pro-life! Sheesh! Superior Health Plan is always between me and my Doctor's plan for my care, always excluding drugs, GENERIC drugs like antidepressants, muscle relaxers, and generic gentler on the heart generic Provigil. Excluding whole classes of prescriptions! Hey, I am selling myself... my energy and effort not for money, but for the salvation of those with chronic illness. We . are. If I had not been waitlisted by Rare Disease Legislative Advocates and/or raised enough on go fund me, I would have been on a plane this Sunday to DC to call out all my TX reps, senators, and killed the congressional debriefing. Yes, I am disabled, with many health issues and have been in poverty much of my life as a young adult. However, I am college educated, a critical thinker, and would have left congress stunned.... Costco' s my dirty little secret... yeah the only place which sells organic health food in bulk, pays a living wage, and doesn't up price their generic drugs by up to 90%. generic Effexor xr 300mg/night, gen flexeril/Generic Provigil. The Pharmacy Techs always look dumbfounded at the pharmacy when I tell them the price Walgreen's wants when my Privitized Medicaid for Disabled plan excludes and denies PA drug prices...and generic Provigil is about to get EXCLUDED and they will not care about my waking abilities... legal Meth... Adderall Generic or Bust... Thanks Texas.... so costco is a Godsend to the Chronically Ill in TEXAS.

Why dont't you ask us who knew, high risk pools are a horrendous prision, cuz you cannot pay the huge 1-3K deductibles, and many of us with severious multiple conditions... the copays cripple us. DO not block grant Medicaid, TX already is paying private insurance companies a profit to cut my Antidepressants during Suicide Prevention weeek, and Flexeril(both generics btw just the last month! Modafonil is to be exclude as of March 31st. Oh the irony... the main reason I am on Disability is severe Narcolepsy with cataplexy, but Texas Drug Venders cut down the formulary and Medicad gets decimated by those in office.... belonging to the party of not U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders... I got narcolepsy from the trauma of 9/11 so the GOV should not make the very disabled citizens prisoner to an ungodly priced health insurance we cannot ever pay, the most impoverished vulerable citizens beg, plead and collapse from not getting the care we need, and raping our freedom of choosing in a freemarket unlike now... we can shop at the marketplace... To Senators Cruz, Cornyn and Representative Sam Johnson of Texas: Oh, no Texas Medicaid has nothing left to cut as it is... you already privatized it to pay for profit companies deny and ration the healthcare for Texas most vulnerable poor (Disabled, Elderly, children) citizens. What is the purpose of cutting Medicaid when you have cadilac care? How much is a human life worth saving? How much should we pay to save the unborn? How is my daughter's life OK to murder by making me beg for a Liver Surgeon to remove a cantaloupe sized Hepatic Adenoma, facing impending death after ex-husband abandoned me a week from eviction. Count down to rupture, I barely made it to 30. Hard working Texans, Seniors in Medicaid nursing homes, agencies strapped for band aids to leave me and grandma in the dust of death so you can make a buck off private corporations. Everytime I have ever gone to the doctor, its not the government with the most say, its the INSURANCE company.  Traditional Texas Medicaid covered much more without exclusions, and didn't require impossible Prior Authorizations for Generic Drugs.... I would choose the federal Medicare everytime if I had a choice over any private, private-contracted health insurance entity.  a Fellow Texan whose say never gets heard... poor disabled.

Without experiencing poverty, disability, spousal abandonment one week prior to eviction,  little to no medical insurance during my 20's, I would become relatively oblivious to the suffering of those like myself battling debilitating invisible disabilities each day. Chronic Illness and Repealing the ACA: What the GOP Doesn't Want You to...

It is quite shocking this day has come, at least to most of us with chronic illness. I Remember how happy I was when several love ones finally were able to get comprehensive insurance coverage and the dignity it brought them. The person on Obamacare Health Exchanges are hard workers, and while not seriously ill, they deserve affordable health insurance, the tax credits made this possible, esp. in Texas which has categorically refused to expand Medicaid to NON Children bearing rearing Normals. However, for those like myself living with serious chronic illnesses which affects every single aspect of survival and functionality, we are in fear and rightfully so.

Last Wednesday Night, as I was in Automatic Behavior Narcolepsy Nightmareland, The senate voted to repeal the Affordable Care Act and all amendments....with no replacement on the table. Thursday, the House of Representatives followed suit. President Elect Trump demanded that the ACA be repealed immediately without thoughtful consideration of a plan just that there be a plan replacement 'On the same Day'. Do you know who this impacts? Children with cancers, veterans, people like myself with pre-existing conditions, the elderly, people who thought they could retire but will have to continue working because healthcare is out of their reach, coal miners who are already struggling, and 20 million Americans who will now have no hope. Family...

It's a scary time to be someone with a chronic illness. It is a scary time for those depending on multiple prescriptions and treatment for conditions we never wanted, throwing us and our aspirations away. Oh, Yes I Went to Bed Earlier and Like Magic... I am CURED Thanks for your Unsolicited Advice!

"Oh yes thank you for your unsolicited advice. I took your advice and went to bed early and oh my gosh this morning I don't know how just that I woke to find my narcolepsy/fibromyalgia/lupus, etc GONE. It's amazing that so simple trick outwit Medical intelligence," said no one with a chronic illness ever.

Unsolicited advice is the one thing that never runs short in supply. As persons with invisible disabilities we are faced with such comments many times you are new chronically ill life. Let's see which are the favorite ones we most often receive...

1. Have you tried some melatonin, marijuana, vitamins, anything else you can fill in the blank?

2. I am a direct salesperson for miracle product fill in the blank, I usually just once a day take it and now I miraculously healthy again I feel no pain and I need you to buy this so I can meet my quota and make commission.

3. Just go to bed earlier,then you won't be so tired all day long.

4. Just brush it off, stop being so lazy and get off you butt and do something.
5. Are you feeling any better? You look so great!

6. I feel like I have narcolepsy or fibromyalgia,too! I still work and get the house sparkling with energy to spare!

7. I used to feel that way, no I just drink water with apple cider vinegar... it cures everything.

8.  I think you're just over exaggerating or imagining things all in your head.

And I am certain there are many other types of norms inferred insinuated types of unsolicited pieces of advice for those with invisible disabilities.

So what can we do to combat unwanted ignorant suggestions to avoid an even more tense situation?

1. Politely say thanks but no thanks.

2. Thank you for your suggestion.

3. Say i'm not looking for debate, please just listen to me and support me.

4. It makes me feel inadequate and sad when you offer me advice I didn't ask for. My doctors expertise makes me confident I am doing the correct things to maximize my welfare as well as negate negative symptoms from my chronic illness.


Why do people offer advice when I don't even ask for such?

1. The feel they can better deal with your problem, and are attempting to prove it to themselves.
2. They Genuinely would like to help.
3. A disease that will never go away is terrifying, so they subconsciously are attempting to alleviate this feeling of tense hopelessness.

What if repeat offenders continue offering unsolicited advice and unwelcome tips, despite my requests?

Distance yourself from them. You need to take care of yourself and your health first and you don't need this kind of negativity to hinder your healing coping processes. There are so many chronic illness supports online and Beyond for you to ever need to waste time with a person unable she completely understand what you are going through. Empathy is the key; however, materialistic tendencies and lack of imagination result in a less compassionate society.
